2) Papua Hit By Two Earthquakes

TEMPO.COBandung - Earthquake struck two regions in Papua on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Chief of Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation Department at the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Daryono informed that both quakes at Sorong and Bintuni Bay will not cause a tsunami.
An analysis conducted by the BMKG shows that the first earthquake that shook Sorong happened at 01.46 Western Indonesia Time with the magnitude of 4.2. The epicenter was at the coordinate of 0.76 degrees South Latitude and 131.27 degrees East Longitude at the depth of 5 kilometers deep.
The second earthquake that shook Bintuni Bay occurred on 06.29 Western Indonesia Time, with the magnitude of 5.4 at the coordinate of 2.26 degrees South Latitude and 133.86 degrees East Longitude at the depth of 10 kilometers.
The II intensity scale earthquakes have shook Kalawas, Papermaranda, Melih, Selebar, and Makbon.
The range of the earthquake at Bintuni Bay affected a wider area, which includes Bisaisona, Sinyori, Mangkoi, Randepandai, Mondan, and Robobusai.
Based on the depth of the hypocenter, both of the earthquakes can be categorized as a shallow earthquake that was triggered by a 'fault' activity. “Both the earthquakes don’t seem to be related because both sources were far apart from each other,” Daryono said.

3) New Caledonia is France’s Trojan horse - Wamytan
1:18 pm on 11 October 2016

New Caledonia’s pro-independence leader Roch Wamytan says the territory should have remained an associate member of the Pacific Islands Forum because it is not an independent country.

Last month's Forum leaders summit admitted New Caledonia and French Polynesia as the first and only members inscribed on the United Nations decolonisation list.
In an interview on local television, Mr Wamytan says New Caledonia has been used like a Trojan horse by France to get into the Forum which had been set up as a body of independent countries.
He said being New Caledonian he defends New Caledonia’s interests, yet a situation can arise where New Caledonia's leaders will have to defend the interests of France which has the regal powers in the territory.

Paris had been pushing for its Pacific territories to become Forum members since 2003 and last month they were admitted with the explicit support of New Zealand and Australia.
The access criteria for full Forum membership remain unclear.
The Pacific Islands Forum website said the group is made up of independent and self-governing states.
